Gal Gadot Opened Up About a "Terrifying" Brain Blood Clot During Her Pregnancy
She had to undergo emergency surgery after being "confined" to her bed.
Gal Gadot is opening up about a “terrifying” health complication she developed when she was in the middle of her fourth pregnancy. On Sunday, the Wonder Woman actress–who previously hinted that “the pregnancy was not easy” when she welcomed her daughter Ori in March–revealed that she developed a “massive blood clot” in her brain while she was expecting.
During her eighth month of pregnancy in February, Gadot was diagnosed with the life-threatening health issue after she started experiencing “excruciating headaches” that kept her “confined” to her bed for weeks. Once an MRI revealed the clot, the star opened up about her mindset: “In one moment, my family and I were faced with how fragile life can be. It was a stark reminder of how quickly everything can change,” she revealed in a December 29 Instagram post.
“In the midst of a difficult year, all I wanted was to hold on and live,” Gadot recounted as she opened up about being rushed into emergency surgery. During the March procedure, she also gave birth to her fourth daughter, Ori.
“Her name, meaning ‘my light,’ wasn’t chosen by chance," she shared about her newborn’s moniker. "Before the surgery, I told [my husband] Jaron that when our daughter arrived, she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel." Revealing that she was now “fully healed” thanks to the “extraordinary team of doctors” at Los Angeles Cedars Sinai, Gadot opened up about penning the post to “pull back the curtain on the fragile reality behind the curated moments we share on social media” and raise awareness.
“Pain, discomfort or even subtle changes often carry a deeper meaning, and being attuned to your body can be life saving,” she concluded. “Sharing this is not meant to frighten anyone but to empower. If even one person feels compelled to take action for their health because of this story, it will have been worth sharing.”
Gadot first hinted at complications during her latest pregnancy when she announced that she and her husband Jaron Varsano had welcomed their fourth child. The Fast & Furious actress and the real estate developer are also parents to daughters Alma, Maya, and Daniella.
“My sweet girl, welcome,” she wrote alongside a photo of her cradling the newborn in March. “The pregnancy was not easy and we made it through. You have brought so much light into our lives, living up to your name, Ori, which means ‘my light’ in Hebrew. Our hearts are full of gratitude. Welcome to the house of girls.. 👯♀️👯♀️ daddy is pretty cool too 😉❤️."
