"Gadis Jolobu" producer denies poster plagiarism allegation

9 Aug - The makers of "Gadis Jolobu the Movie" recently dismissed the accusation of plagiarism, after netizens claimed that the movie poster bears similarity to a foreign film.

Earlier, some netizens took to social media to note the film's promotional poster - in which the three lead actors are seen facing the three ladies of their choices, with the backdrop of a traditional Minangkabau house - bears resemblance to the 2016 Hollywood movie, "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising".

In the said Seth Rogen-starrer, the actor and his two co-stars could be seen facing staring head-to-head with three sorority girls, played by Chloe Grace Moretz, Beanie Feldstein, and Kiersey Clemons, among others.

When asked about it, Zebra Studio's Executive Producer Saraleana Nattaya Azmi stated that they would have been slammed with a copyright lawsuit if it really was plagiarised.

"If there is a similarity, it is unintentional. At the moment, we have not been contacted by anybody about plagiarism," she said.

Saraleana stated that people should not keep comparing and accusing people of plagiarism, stressing that there are other local film posters that face similar situations but have never been sued for copyright infringement.

The movie, directed by CL Hor, stars Hattan, Joey Daud, and Khir Rahman among others.
