Ga. Mom Killed Her 11-Year-Old Daughter Who'd Recently Completed Swim Program Before Turning Gun on Herself

Police said the girl was previously a participant in the department's swimming program.

A Georgia mother fatally shot her 11-year-old daughter before turning the gun on herself in an apparent murder-suicide.

According to reports from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Fox 5 Atlanta and WSB-TV, DeKalb County police found two people dead from gunshot wounds at an apartment complex outside Pine Lake, Ga., on Sunday, Aug. 11.

DeKalb County police identified the girl by the name Makenzie B.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Makenzie B., a recent graduate of our Summer Survival Swim Program, who was taken away from us way too soon,” the department wrote on social media. “Once DKPD, always DKPD.”

The outlets reported that the mother was identified as 31-year-old Qiana Rainley.

Police did not say what led to the shooting.
