FX Sets Premiere Dates for The Old Man Season 2, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez and More

FX has locked in dates for a handful of its new and returning series, the cabler announced Wednesday.

Season 2 of The Old Man starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow will premiere Thursday, Sept. 12 at 10/9c with the first two episodes of eight. In the upcoming run, “former CIA agent Dan Chase (Bridges) and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper (Lithgow) set off on their most important mission to date — to recover Emily Chase (Alia Shawkat) after she is kidnapped by a powerful Afghan tribal leader.”

The following Tuesday, Sept. 17, FX will kick off American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez with the first of its 10 episodes beginning at 10/9c. The limited series will “chart the rise and fall of NFL superstar Hernandez (played by Josh Andres Rivera) and explore the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide and their legacy in sports and American culture,” according to its official description.

New comedy English Teacher will premiere Monday, Sept. 2 at 10/9c with its first two episodes of eight. Series creator Brian Jordan Alvarez stars as Evan Marquez, “a high school teacher in Austin, Texas who often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional and political aspects of working at a high school.” Stephanie Koenig (Lessons in Chemistry) and Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars) co-star.

The network will also be releasing a new documentary and docuseries, beginning with the film The New York Times Presents: Lie To Fly which will air Friday, Aug. 23 at 10/9c. The movie tells the story of a professional pilot, Joseph Emerson, who was accused of trying to crash a plane under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms after fearing mental health treatment would derail his career.

Lastly, on Friday, Sept. 27 at 10/9c, the first two (of five) episodes of docuseries Social Studies will premiere, delving into the lives of the first generation raised on social media.
