Frustrated Nick Kyrgios Smashes Rackets After Epic US Open Defeat
Nick Kyrgios took his frustrations out on his rackets at the US Open in the early hours of Wednesday, September 7, smashing two of them against the ground after he was beaten in a five-set epic by 27th seed Karen Khachanov.
Kyrgios must have fancied his chances after defeating defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the previous round, but Khachanov was not to be denied in a game that stretched into the early hours.
Video here by Chris Orihuela shows the depth of Kyrgios’s disappointment, as he repeatedly smashes one racket off the ground, before grabbing another one and throwing it down with force.
Earlier, Kyrgios threw a bottle to the ground during the third set and received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Credit: Chris Orihuela via Storyful
