Frightened Florida Man Shrieks as Armadillo Charges Toward Him

A Florida man advising his friend not to touch a wild armadillo howled in fear as the animal suddenly turned and skittered toward him, video uploaded on January 31 shows.

Footage recorded by Brandon Alley while on a walk with his two roommates through the Ocala woods shows the armadillo initially wandering around, before approaching one of his roommates.

“As it was getting closer to him, I was getting nervous because I’ve heard they carry leprosy,” Alley told Storyful. “That’s when the armadillo turned to me and started charging at me.”

As the armadillo quickly accelerates toward Alley, he’s heard releasing an alarming screech, which seemingly causes the armadillo to stop in its tracks, then flee.

“We laughed about it all day,” Alley said about the experience.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that “some armadillos are naturally infected with the bacteria that cause Hansen’s disease in people and it may be possible that they can spread it to people.” However, they added that “the risk is very low and most people who come into contact with armadillos are unlikely to get Hansen’s disease.” Credit: Brandon Alley via Storyful
