Freya the Walrus Makes Most of Boat's Bilge Pump While in Oslo Bay

A 600-kg walrus nicknamed Freya was captured frolicking around a small boat and enjoying its bilge pump in Olso, Norway, where she has been spotted this summer.

Video posted by Knut Karlsen to Twitter shows Freya imbibing from a bilge pump on a small watercraft in the Oslo bay.

Karlsen noted that the pump “was activated by Freya filling the boat in the first place.”

Freya was previously spotted in the Netherlands last year, where she became locally famous after napping aboard a Dutch Navy submarine bearing her name.

Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries has urged people to leave the animal alone to get needed rest.

“We observed the walrus Freya resting on a rib outside Snaroykilen in Baerum. Now we stand guard and cooperate with the police to keep people away,” the agency said in a July 23 press release. Credit: Knut Karlsen via Storyful
