Fresh Snow Coats Roadways in Northeast Maine

Fresh snow coated roadways in northeastern Maine overnight into Sunday, January 2, and was expected to continue until the evening before giving way to “much colder” temperatures, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou said.

Meteorologist James Sinko, who works with the NWS in Caribou, captured this footage showing snowy conditions on his Sunday morning commute.

The NWS said that Caribou had seen “rimed” snowflakes that morning instead of “fluffy” snow, meaning “it was warm enough aloft for liquid water to still exist, but this liquid froze to the outside of falling snowflakes, making them icy!”
