An enormous fireball, sending acrid black smoke billowing into the sky.
A video by the Sri Lankan Air Force on Tuesday (September 8) showed firefighters battling fresh flames from a fully loaded oil supertanker off the country's east coast.
This days after an initial fire broke out on the vessel, its navy said.
Fire erupted last Thursday (September 3) in the engine room of the crude carrier New Diamond and spread to the bridge of the vessel,
which was chartered by Indian Oil Corp for importing 2 million barrels of oil from Kuwait.
That blaze was doused on Sunday (September 6), but new flames erupted Monday (September 7).
Navy spokesman Captain Indika de Silva said that fire was still burning but the fire fighting team now has better control of the blaze.
The country has deployed scientists and experts from its Marine Environment Protection Authority to assess the environmental damage caused by the fire.
