Free Climbers Scale Air Force Memorial in Arlington During Routine Cleaning

Video taken on Wednesday morning, November 10, shows a person climbing the US Air Force Memorial in Virginia, part of cleaning efforts ahead of Veterans Day, officials said.

Peter Doran, who captured these videos on Wednesday morning, thought somebody was scaling the memorial before Arlington Police confirmed that the individual was a part of ongoing cleaning operations at the site.

The Arlington sculpture includes three spires reaching 402 feet above sea level, according to the memorial’s website.

“They are keeping the Air Force Memorial beautiful. What a way to earn a paycheck,” Doran tweeted.

Arlington Police confirmed that the person spotted on the spire was a member of the maintenance team performing scheduled work, with an Air Force veteran policeman posing with a thumbs-up in front of the memorial. Credit: Peter Doran via Storyful
