Fredericton police investigating late-night Tannery assault as homicide
An assault in late September in downtown Fredericton is now being investigated as a homicide after police say one of the victims, a 41-year-old man, died from his injuries.
The Fredericton Police Force had previously said they were investigating a serious assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 22 in the Tannery, a large courtyard area outside several bars, between King and Queen streets.
"Two men were assaulted, one seriously," police said in a statement On Sept. 29, a week after the assault took place.
Police also asked for any witnesses of the assault to come forward.
Then on Tuesday afternoon, police released photos of a group of men and said they were seeking the public's help to identify them in relation to the assault, but did not say if the men were suspects or witnesses.
A release issued Tuesday evening did not describe the nature of the assault or give any other details. A spokesperson for Fredericton police did not immediately respond to a CBC News request for more information.
