France's Macron discusses Syria's future with new leader Al-Sharaa

French President Emmanuel Macron called Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Wednesday to discuss the future of Syria in the first exchange between the two leaders.

French President Emmanuel Macron called interim Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa on Wednesday, the presidency said in a statement.

Macron raised the need to pursue the fight against terrorism, which he said is "for the benefit of the Syrian people as well as for the security of the French nation".

He also called for the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into Syria's transition process.

The two leaders also discussed the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, the Syrian president's office confirmed.
