As a government shutdown looms to its final hours, even Fox hosts are starting the blame game.

Brit Hume, Fox News' chief political analyst, took to X on Friday to stand up for Speaker Mike Johnson after two unsuccessful spending bills. Instead, he pointed fingers at billionaire Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump.

“Speaker Johnson is getting the blame for the failure of the bills to keep the government open,” Hume wrote on Friday, just hours before the shutdown. “But how about the team of Trump, Musk & Co? They shot down the first bill. Too full of pork, they said.”

Musk and Trump both attacked the first proposed bipartisan bill earlier this week. After Republican leaders faced immense backlash from both billionaires for the first, a second short-term bill to avoid shutdown was introduced, and was rejected by the House on Thursday, 174-235.

“They demanded a streamlined bill. Johnson produced one and put it on the floor,” Hume continued. “It failed miserably, with three dozen House Republicans voting against it. Way to go guys.”

Since the catastrophic failure, Musk has been looking to pin the blame on Democrats as the clock ticks down to a shutdown.

“A super fair & simple bill was put to a vote and only 2 Democrats in Congress were in favor. Therefore, responsibility for the shutdown rests squarely on the shoulders of @RepJeffries,” Musk tweeted out on Thursday night.

Trump, on the other hand, said that if a government shutdown were to happen, he’d just want it under President Joe Biden’s administration.

He wrote to Truth Social: “This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!”

As the House scrambles to find a solution, Musk’s meddling may provide a small glimpse into whats to come for Trump’s second term.

“The political & legacy media puppets all got their new instructions yesterday and are now parroting the same message to drive a wedge between @realDonaldTrump and me,“ wrote Musk on Friday. ”They will fail.”
