KULAI, May 11 — Four male youths were arrested by police after they were allegedly involved in a gang fight outside a bistro at Jalan Kiambang 12, Indahpura here yesterday.

Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said the authorities were alerted to the incident after receiving a report of an assault and gang fight from a woman at 3am.

“The 21-year-old complainant told police that the ruckus started when a man suddenly slapped her male friend while she was having drinks and chatting with three other men.

“The complainant added that shortly after the incident, her friends were assaulted by a group of 11 other people, including a woman after they arrived in two cars.

“As a result of the incident, the complainant’s friends suffered minor injuries to their head, hands and legs,” said Tok in a statement this afternoon.

Following the report and acting on information, Tok said a team of policemen conducted a raid on the same day at a restaurant in Jalan Iris 8 here at 11.20pm.

“From the raid, we managed to arrest four men, aged between 24 and 28, believed to be instrumental in the gang fight,” he said.

Based on preliminary investigations, Tok said the gang fight was triggered by a disagreement between the two groups.

He said the four suspects detained have past criminal records and are now under police custody pending investigations.

“The suspects will be remanded for four days starting today,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
