IPOH, March 9 (Bernama) -- Four Perak state assemblymen from Pakatan Harapan (PH) has quit their parties, with one from PKR joining Bersatu while two from DAP and one from Amanah declared themselves independent people’s representatives.
They are PKR Kuala Kurau assemblyman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri who joined Bersatu, Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong and Buntong assemblyman A.Sivasubramaniam, both from DAP, and Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain from AMANAH.
Yong, Sivasubramaniam dan Hasnul have however declared their support for Perak Perikatan Nasional which will take over the state from PH, in line with the new political re-alignment there.
Abdul Yunus’ switch to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) means that the party now has four of the 59 Perak state assembly seats, besides Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Chenderiang), Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik) and Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Tualang Sekah).
The move by Yong and Sivasubramaniam to quit their party brings down the number held by DAP in the Perak state assembly from 18 to 16, while Amanah has lost one of the six seats it held in the state.

This means that the Perak state assembly currently comprises Barisan Nasional, all from UMNO (25); DAP (16); Amanah (5); Bersatu (4); PKR (3), PAS (3) and Independent (3).
Speaking to reporters after Perak Perikatan Nasional’s first press conference here, Abdul Yunus said he made his decision to join Bersatu last week after talking to various parties as he wanted to continue to serve the people.
He stressed that there had been no coercion, pressure or threat for him to leave PKR and join Bersatu, but the decision was based on his desire to serve the public.
“I am still in the process of filling up the form (to join Bersatu) and will inform PKR as soon as possible. To me, the issue of betrayal is not relevant,” he said.
On March 2, Abdul Yunus attended an event where more than 400 PKR members from various branches quit the party, declaring their moral support for the Azmin Ali-Zuraida Kamaruddin camp.

Meanwhile, in a press conference held at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Yong said he, Hasnul Zulkarnain and Sivasubramaniam will be independent state assemblymen but supported Perikatan Nasional in the interest of the public who had given them the mandate after the 14th general election (GE14).
Yong who was previously the exco for Housing, Local Government, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs and New Village, said the decision to support Perikatan Nasional was based on ensuring a balance in racial composition in the state government which was predominantly Malay.
“To me, Perikatan Nasional will not be complete without representation from the Chinese and Indian communities. This is one of the factors which made us support it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sivasubramaniam said he was confident that Perikatan Nasional will continue developing Buntong as promised during GE14.
"I support this government because I want to see the development that was previously planned such as Rumah Perakku is implemented in Buntong as we promised,” he said.
