Forrest Compton dead: The Twilight Zone actor dies of coronavirus aged 94

Actor Forrest Compton has died from coronavirus at the age of 94, according to reports in the US.

The actor enjoyed a decades-spanning career in the entertainment industry, starring in programmes including The Twilight Zone and 1960s comedy Gomer Pyle.

Compton’s death was announced by the Shelter Islander Reporter, a local newspaper for the region in the state of New York.

They wrote over the weekend: “Forrest Compton, 94, also died in the hospital at about 10 a.m. today.. Close friends of Mr. Compton confirmed his death.”

Compton’s Twilight Zone appearance came in the 1963 episode The Thirty-Fathom Grave, in which he featured alongside Mike Kellin and Simon Oakland.

He was best-known for playing Mike Karr, the central character in the long-running soap The Edge of Night.

Compton starred in the drama from 1970 to 1984. His last acting role was in 2002 and he lived on Shelter Island with his wife, Jeanne, who he married in 1975.
