Formula 1: Turkish Grand Prix canceled due to COVID-19
There will be two Formula 1 races in Austria for the second consecutive year.
F1 announced Friday that the Turkish Grand Prix had been canceled due to COVID-19. The cancellation means that the Red Bull Ring will host F1 races on back-to-back weekends this summer.
The Turkish Grand Prix was added to the F1 calendar in April after the Canadian Grand Prix was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. But rising coronavirus cases in Turkey meant that the race's existence lasted less than three weeks.
The Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City was also moved from Istanbul because of COVID-19 earlier this week.
What the F1 schedule looks like now
The doubleheader in Austria means the F1 schedule has been shuffled a bit. The Monaco Grand Prix will run as scheduled on May 23 and is followed by the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on June 6. After that, the French Grand Prix will be run on June 20 instead of June 27. The two races at Austria will follow on June 27 and July 4.
The F1 schedule remains at 23 races.

Toronto Grand Prix also canceled
IndyCar officially canceled the Toronto Grand Prix on Friday because of COVID-19. It's the second straight year that the annual street race has been canceled. No replacement race was immediately announced.
IndyCar races Saturday at the Indianapolis road course ahead of the May 30 Indianapolis 500. Pole qualifying for the Indy 500 is on May 23. There are 35 cars entered for 33 spots.
