Former NFL Star Eddie Lacy Arrested on Charge of 'Extreme DUI'
The retired running back pleaded guilty to a similar charge in 2022
Former NFL running back Eddie Lacy was arrested late Monday night on four DUI charges – including an extreme DUI charge – and possessing an open container inside the vehicle, police in Arizona say.
In the state, an extreme DUI charge – for a Blood Alcohol Concentration of at least .15% – is a misdemeanor.
Sergeant Allison Sempsis of the Scottsdale Police Department, who confirmed the retired NFL star's booking to PEOPLE, said that DUI evidence “still needs to be analyzed and processed by the lab.”
Lacy was arrested around 10:40 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, after a caller dialed 911 trying “to locate a possible impaired driver,” and provided a description of the vehicle, according to police.
Officers stopped Lacy around 17000 N Scottsdale Rd. in Scottsdale, Ariz., after they allegedly watched him commit “traffic violations,” per police.
Lacy – who was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers out of the University of Alabama – was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press in his first season, according to the Green Bay Packers. In 2014, he became the fifth-ever Packer to register back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
The former running back – who played five professional seasons, rounding out his career with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring in 2017 – has a history of driving problems in Scottsdale, Ariz.

In March 2022 Lacy was charged in a five-count case in Scottsdale City Court involving a DUI, including two counts of extreme DUI. Four of the charges – including one of the extreme DUI charges – were dismissed at the request of the city attorney, per the online case information. Lacy pleaded guilty to having an extreme DUI with a BAC of at least .20 and was fined $3,259.20.
Before that case was closed in December 2022, Lacy pleaded guilty that September to driving with a license suspended, revoked or canceled. Other related charges were dismissed at the request of the city attorney.
This August Lacy was charged with speeding through a school zone. Last month, he was charged with speeding again. Both of those civil cases remain ongoing.
It was not immediately clear if Lacy had retained a lawyer for his Sept. 30 DUI case or for when his first court appearance was slated.
