Former Hollyoaks actress Terri Dwyer has revealed that she has been suffering from symptoms of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Terri, who has played Ruth Osborne in the soap for several stints between 1995 and 2008, tweeted that she has been experiencing ill health recently and thanked her followers for their support and love while she's been self-isolating at home.

"Thank you all for your well wishes," she tweeted. "You are all keeping me sane in very difficult times.

"Day 5 with #covid19UK symptoms - it's brutal, I'm not gonna lie. The cough is horrendous!"

She added that thankfully her family have not been suffering as much, writing: "But my family are still good, so don't panic - we all react differently. Stay strong you lovely lot."

Terri, who has also worked on 60 Minute Makeover and This Morning, has been keeping fans up to date with her illness, explaining that it began with a sore throat and "flu like aches and pains".

But she has also explained that she cannot be sure whether she has the virus as testing is only being carried out on those who are being hospitalised.

Ruth's storylines included relationships with Kurt Benson, Jasmine Bates, Lewis Richardson and Tony Hutchinson, as well as finding out that her father Jack had slept with her best friend Dawn Cunningham.

Hollyoaks itself has, like the other British soaps, been affected by the coronavirus outbreak and from Monday, March 30, will only air on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays rather than on every weekday in the event that filming needs to be paused.

Actress Sarah Jayne Dunn, who plays Mandy Richardson, has said that everyone involved in the show has been "taking everything day-by-day".

"We're in the same boat as everyone else," she said. "Currently, we're just getting as much stuff in the can as we can, and then we'll see."
