Former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso wants to stay at Barcelona and is not ready to make a loan move to Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils are looking for a temporary solution to their lack of fit and available left-backs following news Luke Shaw could miss up to two months.

Shaw has picked up a muscular injury, leaving Erik ten Hag in a difficult position with Tyrell Malacia also absent and Brandon Williams departing on loan to Championship side Ipswich Town.

Ten Hag has publicly suggested that Man Utd can cope despite having no available senior left-backs – but the Red Devils are making moves in the market to bring in a replacement on loan.

“Definitely we have the solutions in our squad to cope with that,” Ten Hag said on Friday in his pre-match press conference.

“We thought before the season about this scenario, what could happen.

“You hope to avoid this scenario, that’s also clear, but if it happens, you have to be ready for it and we are ready to deal with it.”

Barcelona full-back Alonso is one of the defenders Man Utd are considering and Spanish publication Sport claimed on Monday that the Red Devils had lodged ‘a formal offer’ to take him on loan.

But now Marca journalist Luis Rojo insists that the Spain international is not keen on making the move back to the Premier League and wants to stay at Barcelona.

Rojo wrote on Twitter: “Marcos Alonso does not see clearly his departure to United. He continues with his idea of fulfilling his contract at Barca.”

Man Utd are hoping Rasmus Hojlund can get back to fitness as soon as possible with supporters keen to see him in action after his £72m move from Atalanta.

And Eriksen has been filling in fans on what they can expect from the striker with Ten Hag hinting that the Denmark international could play some part against Arsenal this coming weekend.

“He’s a guy who holds his ground,” Eriksen told the United Review. “He doesn’t back down from anything. He’s really a front-foot guy, who is aggressive and really attack-minded. But, at the same time, a nice guy outside of football.

“Can my experience help him? Yeah, I definitely will [pass that on] but he will definitely see it for himself. The Premier League is different compared to any other league he’s been at before. So he’s going to have to adapt. But I’m sure he will adapt quickly.”
