Black Panther and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Forest Whitaker has been making waves with his historical drama Godfather of Harlem – a critically-acclaimed historical crime drama that he both starred in and produced – which aired in the US in 2019.
Thankfully, it has finally been given a UK airdate, thanks to Starz. They have announced that they will start airing episodes weekly from Sunday, November 1 on the Starzplay streaming service, which is also available as a channel on Amazon Prime Video.
In the series, Whitaker plays real-life crime boss Bumpy Johnson, who leaves a 10-year stint in prison at the start of the 1960s, and returns to the neighbourhood where he used to rule. During his absence, the Italian mafia have taken over.
Johnson's attempts to return to power also brings him into contact with Malcolm X, played by Nigél Thatch, who is causing all sorts of controversy at the time. Other cast members include The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito and Daredevil's Vincent D'Onofrio.
The series has already been renewed for a second season, although we have no idea when that will actually happen. Hopefully there won't be as big a wait for UK viewers, whenever it does premiere in the US.
If you fancy seeing Forest Whitaker in something completely different, November will also see him appear in Jingle Jangle, a Christmas-themed musical with a Black cast. That one will be hitting Netflix on November 13.
