Footage Shows Helicopter Carrying Kobe Bryant Circling Over Glendale Before Deadly Crash
Footage shared on January 26 shows the helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant circling over Glendale, California, prior to it crashing.
The video was filmed on West California Avenue in Glendale, the area where the helicopter circled overhead for 12-13 minutes before it traveled northwest for another six minutes, before turning back southwest towards Calabasas, where it crashed at 9:45 am. A screengrab sent to Storyful by the videographer, Glendale resident David Lyudmirksy, shows this footage was captured at 9:29 am.
Lyudmirksy said he captured this footage because he noticed “weird stuff happening” above his home.
Captain John M. Cox, a retired pilot who runs an aviation safety consulting company called Safety Operating Systems, told Storyful the helicopter seen in this video appeared to be flying lower than was normal, but data transmitted from the pilot shows it was at a legal altitude. There was nothing in the footage to indicate that something was amiss, Captain Cox said.
The investigation continued on Tuesday, January 28, into the cause of the crash, which killed Bryant, his daughter Gianna, Alyssa Altobelli, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, Christina Mauser, and Ara Zobayan, media reported. Credit: David Lyudmirksy via Storyful
