Fnatic sign ChYuan as new offlaner to replace Masaros
Fnatic announced on Saturday (April 10) that their Dota 2 team's new offlaner will be Malaysian player Ng Kee "ChYuan" Chyuan, who now shifts to position 3 after playing as the midlaner for his professional career.
ChYuan will be replacing Nattaphon "Masaros" Ouanphakdee, who was released by Fnatic on 4 April after the team's disappointing run in the ONE Esports Singapore Major.
Despite receiving a direct seed to the Playoffs as the top upper division team of the Dota Pro Circuit's (DPC) Southeast Asian regional league, Fnatic lost back-to-back series to finish the Major in 9th-12th place.
"We believe that his qualities and wealth of experience that includes stints in SEA and the Chinese region are huge strengths that adds up to our team," Fnatic said in a statement.
"I'm very excited to play a new role. I'm ready to take it on and I look forward to adding more value to the team. Thank you Team Fnatic for having me onboard,” said ChYuan.
ChYuan has spent most of the past two years playing in China with Team Aster, who he first joined on a trial basis on April 2019. He then joined Aster's main roster as its midlaner on September of that year for the 2019-2020 DPC, helping the team get 9th-12th place finishes in the MDL Chengdu Major and DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major as well as win the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3.
After last year's DPC was cancelled by the coronavirus pandemic, ChYuan continued playing with Aster for the offseason and helped them get Top 4 finishes in DPL-CDA Professional League Seasons 1 and 2 as well as China Dota2 Professional League Season 2.
ChYuan was moved to Aster's inactive roster in August last year, after which he returned to competing in Southeast Asia.
He competed in the lower division of the DPC's Southeast Asian regional league with the stack ZeroTwo, which finished in sixth place of its division.
ChYuan will make his debut with Fnatic in the second season of the 2021 DPC, which will run from 14 April to 20 May. Fnatic is expected to play its first matches Southeast Asian regional league's upper division in Week 2.
