KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) says it trusts in the wisdom of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riáyatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as well as the interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to quickly normalise the current political situation in the country.
FMM chief executive officer Dr Yeoh Oon Tean said a return to normalcy would restore investors’ confidence in Malaysia as well as improve the country’s economy.
“Well, I think this is a democracy, so things like this happen from time to time and in other countries as well.
“What we see is just a very short period at this point of time, but we trust the wisdom of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and also Tun Dr Mahathir,” he told reporters after the FMM Seminar on Doing Business in Turkey: Trade and Investment Opportunities for Malaysian Manufacturers here today.
The seminar, which was attended by over 100 participants, was aimed at facilitating a better understanding of Turkey’s business climate, export and investment prospects as well as opportunities for trade with Turkey.
Yeoh said it also provided a platform for manufacturers to network with government agencies and Turkish representatives.
Earlier in his speech, FMM vice president Datuk Andrew Goh Boon Kim said currently a total of 128 FMM members are exporting various products to Turkey including rubber gloves, textiles and food and beverages.
“Malaysia and Turkey have been enjoying a broad-based and close partnership since 1964. And just in December 2019, Turkey and Malaysia signed 15 joint cooperation agreements on science, technology and defence, targeting an estimated US$5 billion of annual trade by 2025.
“FMM also facilitates members in their trade promotion and expansion activities through participation in international trade fairs and specialised trade missions,” he added.
Goh said FMM will organise a trade mission to Turkey and Bosnia in the second half of this year to enhance bilateral trade and investments.
