Florida Democrat knocks Marjorie Taylor Greene for Jan. 6 anniversary event

Florida state Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) decision to attend an event in the Sunshine State celebrating the third anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

“Just another day in Florida where the local Republican Party in Osceola County is hosting an ‘anniversary’ event to mark January 6th and Marjorie Taylor Green is the ‘special’ guest,” Eskamani posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Was really hoping this was a joke when I first saw it.”

Eskamani posted screenshots of the event details, which invite Republicans in Kissimmee, Fla. — just outside of Orlando — to join Greene and receive a signed copy of her recently published memoir, “MTG.”

“We’re excited to invite you to an exclusive event with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene at WestgateResorts,” the invitation reads. “As a prominent MAGA leader, Congresswoman Greene is a staunch advocate for American priorities over foreign interests and special lobbying.”

The event is set to take place on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Westgate Resort. Tickets range from $45-$1,000, according to the website.

However, attendees can also purchase a Super VIP pass to have a private briefing with Greene, a VIP pass for a photo opportunity with the fiery lawmaker or general admission to the event for “Honoring Republican Women.”

Super VIP members were also invited to join in a “special private briefing on J6 and DC in a closed-door session,” the event details read.

“This is a rare opportunity to engage with a leading figure who believes in a government working for its people,” the event text said. “Join us in a meaningful discussion about our nation’s future.”

More House coverage from The Hill

Greene released a tell-all book in November that chronicles her rise to fame as one of the nation’s most prominent far-right lawmakers and avid supporters of former President Trump. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Greene said she wanted people to hear her side of the story and that some of the book “is setting the record straight.”

The Hill has reached out to Greene and the Osceola County Republican Party for more information.
