Authorities issued immediate evacuations in Montecito, California, on Monday, January 9, the five-year anniversary of a deadly mudslide in the region that claimed 23 lives, after dangerous flooding hit the area.

Santa Barbara County officials ordered residents in Montecito, Toro Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and Padaro Lane to evacuate immediately on Monday.

The National Weather Service said “dangerous life threatening” flash flooding was impacting southern Santa Barbara County and central Ventura County as additional heavy rain moves into the area. Credit: @ShapeOfRain via Storyful
