A severe thunderstorm brought heavy rainfall and hail to the New South Wales outback city of Broken Hill on January 2, leaving streets under water.
At least 72 requests for assistance were responded to by the Broken Hill NSW State Emergency Service after ceilings and roofs were left damaged.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for most of western New South Wales with the possibility of large hailstones, heavy rainfall and damaging winds. Up to 14 millimetres of rain was recorded over the 24 hour period since 9 am on January 2.
