Flooded Streets in Oakland, California, as Powerful Atmospheric River Hits

Floodwater inundated streets in Oakland, California, as heavy rain entered the Bay Area on Wednesday, January 4.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch in the area until January 5, as a “potent atmospheric river” impacted the region.

Footage captured by Twitter user @daxb shows rain continuing to fall on an already flooded region in Oakland.

Local news reported that streets in Oakland were closed due to downed trees and mudslides caused by the storm. City of Oakland said an additional emergency shelter had been set up in preparation for the storm. Credit: @daxb via Storyful
