JOHOR BARU, Feb 3 — The flood situation in Johor continues to improve with a drop in displaced flood victims at the various relief centres.

Johor state secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said a total of 925 victims from 264 families in eight temporary relief centres (PPS) remain in Batu Pahat and Segamat districts as of 8am today.

He said the latest number showed a reduction compared to yesterday’s figure of 977 victims from 273 families in 10 PPS.

However, Azmi noted that Batu Pahat is the worst affected district with the latest tally of 877 victims from 249 families housed in six PPS.

“For the same period yesterday, Baru Pahat recorded a slight improvement over today’s figure with 873 victims from 249 families in six PPS.

Azmi, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman, said the other affected district was Segamat with 48 flood victims from 15 families in two PPS.

“For Segamat, the latest figure is an improvement compared to the same period yesterday where 63 people from 20 families were housed in three PPS,” he said.

In a related development, Azmi said the Public Works Department (PWD) advised motorists in Mersing that Jalan Tanah Abang and the first stretch of the road remains closed due to floods.

He said that in Kulai, the Jalan Sungai Tiram-Ulu Tebrau stretch is still closed to all vehicles due to landslides.

Azmi said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (DID) advisory warned that Sungai Bekok’s water level in Batu Pahat has now breached its danger level.

“Sungai Bekok’s water level has reached 18.80m, which is beyond the danger level of 18.70m,” he said.
