Floats get finishing touches as Rose Parade set to return

This year the theme is "Dream. Believe. Achieve."

While the United States has been hit by surging cases of COVID-19 both the Rose parade and the Rose Bowl college football game are expected to go forward at the beginning on the new year.

Last year's Rose Parade was canceled because of the pandemic.

The Washington Post reported that the Virginia football team withdrew from the Fenway Bowl because of coronavirus-related complications, the school announced Sunday, and the game was canceled.

The scrapping of Wednesday's Fenway Bowl came on the same day that Military Bowl officials announced that game, scheduled for Monday in Annapolis, was canceled after Boston College withdrew because of a surge in positive cases, The Washington Post reported.

Previously, the Hawaii Bowl was canceled after Hawaii decided not to face Memphis on Christmas Eve for reasons related to the pandemic, and Texas A&M dropped out of the Gator Bowl against Wake Forest, only to be replaced by Rutgers for the New Year's Eve matchup, The Washington Post reported.
