Five people were killed after a hot air balloon crashed into power lines in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 26.
Four people died at the scene, including the balloon’s pilot, and one other man died in hospital, Mayor Tim Keller told a press conference.
Police identified the deceased as Susan Montoya, Mary Sisneros-Martinez, Martin Martinez, Nicholas Meleski, and John Montoya.
“The initial investigation indicates the balloon descended towards the ground and struck an overhead power line,” state police said in a statement. “The basket became engulfed in flames.”
This footage by Joshua Perez shows the balloon floating in the air while its smoking canopy lies on Albuquerque’s Unser Boulevard. A man can be seen using a fire extinguisher.
