Fish falls from sky in New Jersey, smashes windshield

A one-pound bluefish fell from the sky and smashed a car’s windshield in New Jersey, according to that Tesla’s shocked owners.

Cynthia and Jeff Levine told the Asbury Park Press they had no idea what happened when they stepped outside to hear their car alarm screaming and saw the windshield on their 2023 Tesla Y was destroyed.

“Then we went to the Tesla’s dashcam and saw the fish fall out of the sky, bounce off the windshield and land in the garage,” according to Cynthia Levine.

The Levine’s said they saw talon marks on the fish leading them to believe a bird carrying it overhead must’ve lost its grip.

Bluefish are often found along the Jersey Shore not far from the Levine’s Atlantic Highland’s home near Sandy Hook Bay. Cynthia Levine said there’s an eagles nest in the area.

More than 2,000 Garden State residents lost power in August when a fish dropped from the sky onto a transformer, according to CBS News. Police also believe a bird dropped the fish.

A North Carolina woman blamed a falling catfish for breaking her car’s windshield in 2019. The driver of that automobile, which was in motion when it was struck, told local station WCTI she saw a bird carrying the fish that smashed her window.

The Levine’s had their car towed for repairs Monday. According to the Asbury Park Press, their next step was convincing their insurance company damage to their vehicle was caused by a fish. Bluefish can weigh more up to 31 pounds, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
