Ahead of the release of the highly-anticipated Wizards of Waverly Place revival this fall, fans are getting their first look at the reboot. On Monday, May 14, Selena Gomez–who’ll be returning as Alex Russo alongside her TV sibling David Henrie–shared a sneak peek during the ABC and Disney Upfronts event at the Javits Center in New York City. In addition to revealing the reboot’s official name, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the show’s executive producer opened up about how “excited” she was for the upcoming project.

"Sometimes, something magical happens when you do get to go home again," Gomez told the crowd. Shortly after the announcement, Disney dropped an official plot synopsis and the first photos from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

In the first photo, Gomez and Henrie, who will reprise his role as Justin Russo, are seen holding their wands up, hinting at a return to their magical roots. The Only Murders in the Building actress, who will be guest-starring in the spinoff, showed off thick blunt bangs and a purple blouse while her on-screen brother sported an emerald green cardigan that looked like it was Slytherin-coded.

A second image showed the small screen siblings with other leads from the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, and Max Matenko. In the photo, the group can be seen sitting around a kitchen table that has a "31" birthday cake on it.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which will be released 12 years after the original Disney Channel series wrapped its four-season run, will follow Justin, “who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo,” according to a synopsis Disney released on May 14 after Gomez's appearance.

However, Justin's plans for normalcy are put into jeopardy when Alex brings Billie (LeAnn Brown) to him for help with magical training.

“Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities—and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World,” Disney shared.

The series is slated to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ sometime this fall, so it's likely fans will get more teasers (and preview photos) ahead of its release.
