When it comes to appreciation for good design, why not start young? When your kids needs new furniture, skip the Baby Shark-themed pieces (they'll be obsessed with a new show in no time) and pick out some timeless, refined sets—like maybe one by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright. PlayHouse, a new children's furniture line that pays homage to the design icon launched this week. The collection is produced by kids' furniture maker Mod Mom Furniture and toddler furniture maker Little Colorado in partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. It's the first ever Frank Lloyd Wright furniture line made completely for kids.

PlayHouse includes a combination of modern pieces inspired by Wright's furniture designs as well as actual scaled-down replicas of his furniture. The first piece from the line is the Usonian table and chair set. This colorful play table set, made from Baltic Birch plywood, comes with two Usonian-style chairs and five tabletop options, including an illustration of Wright's March Balloons. And if you ask me, I can't think of a more exciting visual for kids to look at as they do their homework or create their own masterpieces.

In addition to Wright's creative legacy, the line is the result of another inspiring design story: Mod Mom Furniture is a one-woman-show founded by self-taught designer and carpenter Kiersten Hathcock. For Hathcock, who started her company in her garage in 2007 without any type of design education, the experience is surreal. She reflects on her early days on her blog, where she writes "I looked up to mid-century mod designers like Eames and Herman Miller but I didn’t feel as if I was ever in their league. And I wasn’t. I was a mom in a garage." However, since starting Mod Mom 13 years ago, her signature toy boxes have been sold across the country and around the world and Hathcock has been featured on ABC’s Shark Tank and the Nate Berkus Show. Now, she's transforming the designs of one of the most well-known architects ever.

Following the Usonian set, the next piece to drop will be a child-sized scaled replica of Wright’s Origami Chair (also known as the Taliesin West chair), and boy are we excited for our kids to see that. Check out the line here.
