Earlier reports from ZN.UA indicated Pavliuk’s forthcoming appointment as the new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk previously served as chief of staff - deputy commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and commander of the Kyiv Defense Forces from May 2022 to Feb. 21, 2023. He assumed the role of First Deputy Minister of Defense on Feb. 14, 2023.
Changes in Ukraine’s military leadership occurred on Feb. 8 with the replacement of the Armed Forces commander-in-chief. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who had led the forces for over 2.5 years, appointing Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi in his place.
On Feb. 9, Serhiy Shaptala was dismissed from the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, succeeded by Anatoliy Barhylevych, commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces.
