KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) recorded 60 new Covid-19 cases today and no fatalities today.

MOH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that 33 patients were discharged, bringing the total cumulative number of discharged patients to 5,945.

Of the 60 cases recorded, seven are imported cases who contracted the disease abroad, while 53 are local infections involving 44 foreigners, with 27 cases detected at the immigration detention depot in Semenyih.

Another six Covid-19 cases among foreigners were detected at a separate depot in Sepang, which is now a new cluster.

“To date, there are nine Covid-19 positive cases being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of this, four cases require ventilators.

“From the latest information reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), it is to be noted that there are no new cases of Covid-19 related deaths so far.

“Thus, the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia stands at 115 cases (1.59 per cent of the total number of cases),” he said.

The ministry also conveyed its Hari Raya Aidilfitri wishes to Muslims nationwide, as well as frontliners from various agencies, for remaining on duty during the holidays to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Indeed, our fight against this invisible enemy still is not done yet, and this is one of our responsibilities to the community and the country,” Dr Noor Hisham added.
