First Children Under 12 in Washington State Get COVID-19 Vaccination

Ten children under the age of 12 became among the first in Washington state to receive an initial COVID-19 vaccine dose on November 3.

This video, released by University of Washington School of Medicine, shows the preteens receiving their vaccinations at Shoreline Community College in Seattle.

Ten-year-old Micah Wong said she was “really excited” that she wouldn’t have to be as worried, while 11-year-old Sarah Mitchell was happy because it was “really, really, really annoying” that she couldn’t do what her older, vaccinated brothers could do.

US President Joe Biden said the “authorization of a safe, effective vaccine” for those over five years was a “turning point” in the country’s battle against COVID-19. Credit: UW Medicine via Storyful
