First Batch of COVAX Vaccines Arrives in Kenya

The first batch of COVAX COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, on March 2.

Approximately 1 million doses were delivered on Tuesday, UNICEF said.

This clip, released by the World Health Organization in Kenya, shows the first batch arriving.

The vaccines were transported to Kenya by UNICEF as part of the COVAX initiative, which aims to “accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.”

The vaccines were met at the airport by Kenya government officials led by Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe, UNICEF Representative to Kenya Maniza Zaman, and World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Kenya Dr Rudi Eggers, according to a statement from UNICEF.
