Fireworks Set Off During Minsk Protests

Fireworks were set off on a main street in Minsk, Belarus, on August 11, as anti-government protests ignited by the reelection of President Alexander Lukashenko continued.

This footage shows fireworks going off near Pushkinskaya, a metro station in the northwest of the city.

Protesters across cities in Belarus have clashed with police for several nights following Lukashenko’s election for a sixth term.

The main opposition candidate, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, claimed the vote was rigged.

News reports said residents of Belarus experienced widespread internet outages, which limited access to social media and news coverage. Protesters accused the government of shutting down internet access, which authorities have denied. Credit: Pavel Kisly via Storyful
