Aussies rang in the new year with fireworks over Sydney as the clock struck midnight on January 1.
This footage, filmed by Storyful journalist Declan Bowring, shows fireworks bursting over Sydney Harbour and onlookers cheering from a vantage point in Forsyth Park.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian had urged Sydneysiders to enjoy the spectacle at home. The Sydney Morning Herald said attendance near the harbourside was limited to a few hundred permit holders. “The area around the Opera House was all but empty, save for the police and event organisers,” the paper said.
