Firefighters Respond After Morning Strikes Damage Mykolaiv Hotel

A hotel in central Mykolaiv was damaged in Russian strikes early on July 14, the region’s governor said.

Mykolaiv Governor Vitaly Kim said that the city came under “massive rocket fire”. Nine missiles from a Russian S-300 anti-aircraft systems were fired at the city, damaging two schools, transport infrastructure, and a hotel, he said.

Russia says that it only targets military installations in Ukraine, but the Hotel Mykolaiv is a number of hotels that have been struck by Russian missiles in recent weeks. Earlier in July, a hotel in Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast, was heavily damaged by Russian strikes. In Odesa, a hotel used as a children’s camp was badly damaged in a Russian strike on July 1, killing at least one child.

Kim said that the number of victims in the Mykolaiv shelling was still being determined.

Ukrainian officials have previously said that Russia was repurposing the S-300 missile defense system to strike civilian areas.
