Firefighters in Goochland, Virginia, answered an unusual call this week.

On Monday, Oct. 7, two men from Goochland County Fire-Rescue were enlisted to help a local puppy, Sky, after the pet's head became stuck in the hole of a toy made for children.

The rescuers arrived to find the curious 10-month-old puppy had poked their head through a large opening of a blue kids' toy and got stuck. The photos the fire department shared on Facebook showed that the toy got caught around Sky's neck.

"Oh my!!!!" one person wrote of the puppy's unusual predicament.

"Awesome job," someone else commented, while another added, "Another amazing community service, thank you for all you do."

Earlier this month, firefighters a few hundred miles away rescued a pup after she was stranded by Hurricane Helene flooding.

In Kingsport, Tennessee, a dog was discovered stranded in a tree, the Kingsport Fire Department revealed in an Oct. 2 Facebook post.

According to the department, its Technical Rescue Team, along with the Murfreesboro Police Department, had discovered the missing dog, named Athena, 20 feet up a tree near the Nolichucky River. Photos from the scene show the pup peering down from a perch in the tree.

In its own Facebook post, the Murfreesboro Police Department revealed that K9 Kari and her handler, Officer Angela Alexander, were helping locate flood casualties when Athena began "barking uncontrollably," ultimately leading the search team to her location.

"The funny thing about Kari is she is not fond of other dogs, but this time, it was different," Alexander said. "I'm so proud of her helping to find something good in all the devastation caused by the flooding."

The Kingsport Fire Department said that after she was discovered, Athena was "happily removed from the tree," and then rescuers fed her.

Local outlet WCYB documented the dog's emotional reunion with her owners, capturing footage of the excited canine giving kisses to owners Allie and TJ Faulkner and their kids.

TJ told WCYB that those who helped rescue Athena "put a light at the end of the tunnel."

"It's like another member of our family; it's like another child," he said of the pup. "She means a lot to us."
