Firefighters Fight Re-Ignition of Wildfire in Chile's Bio Bio Region

Firefighters used aircraft to help protect homes from a re-ignited wildfire near Florida, Bio Bio region, Chile, on February 17, videos released by Chile’s National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) show.

According to CONAF, the fire spanned approximately 26,980 hectares (around 66,669 acres) as of Friday.

The aircraft seen in the video is a “10-Tanker aircraft, with a discharge capacity of 35,000 liters,” CONAF said.

At least 25 people have died as a result of the wildfires across Chile as of February 18, 16 of whom were in Bio Bio region, and nearly 2,000 homes have been destroyed, according to Chile’s National Disaster Prevention and Response Service SENAPRED. Credit: CONAF via Storyful
