Fireball Lights Up Night Sky Over Connecticut

A “fireball” meteor was captured by a porch camera in Wethersfield, Connecticut, on Sunday, November 8, as it plunged through the atmosphere.

Ring camera footage shared by Steven Devanney shows the fireball – as a meteor is called when it is brighter than the planet Venus – as it streaked across the night sky near his home.

The American Meteor Society recorded 280 witness reports of the fireball from residents of the northeastern US and Quebec. The fireball traveled from east to west and stopped being visible around Poughkeepsie, New York, the society said. Credit: Steven Devanney via Storyful
