Fire Breaks Out at Historic Welsh Pier

A fire broke out in a former nightclub building at the historic Mumbles Pier near the Welsh city of Swansea on Wednesday, August 31, officials said.

Mumbles Pier, a Victorian structure built in 1898, is privately owned by the Bollom family, who said they were “completely devastated” by the fire.

The Bolloms said they believed the fire started at the rear of a building that used to be Cinderella’s, a popular nightclub that closed in the 2000s, “and spread throughout the row of buildings on that side of our complex.” Neither the pier nor an adjacent arcade were damaged and no one was injured, they said.

According to BBC News, a sweet shop and a restaurant were affected by the blaze. Credit: Dewi Joseph via Storyful
