FINAS reprimands "Pulau" producers over steamy trailer controversy
30 Jan – The National Film Development Board of Malaysia (FINAS) has already sent a letter of reprimand to the producers of the film, "Pulau" following its controversial trailer.
CEO Dr Md Nasir Ibrahim shared as much to mstar, stating that the trailer needs to be reedited since it does not display the movie's real storyline.
"The letter was sent via the FINAS Corporate Communications Unit to the producers of the film. For me, the trailer needs to be revised because it doesn't reflect the real story. It only highlighted sensational scenes to attract attention," he said.
Nasir added that changes need to be made to protect the sensitivity of the country's multiracial society.
He also does not rule out the notion that the trailer was intentionally structured to involve steamy scenes as a gimmick.
"A controversy like this should be a lesson and it should serve as some kind of guideline for movie producers so similar mistakes will not be repeated in the future," Nasir added.
The upcoming movie stars Alif Satar, Amelia Henderson, Ikmal Amry, Sanjna Sury, Joey Leong, and Harris Annuar among others.
