KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chief executive officer (CEO) Md Nasir Ibrahim has been terminated after approximately two years of service.

Finas via their official Facebook page this morning shared a statement thanking Nasir for his services in office from November 1 2021 until May 31 2023.

Nasir’s contract with Finas was cut five-months short as his contract was supposed to officially end this October.

In the meantime, the responsibility of interim CEO will be held by Finas deputy director general of management Rozita Waty Ridzuan until a suitable replacement is found.

The decision is part of the restructuring of the agency which will include recalibration on their policies, programmes and the creative industry’s activities, especially the film industry.

"This initiative will hopefully further help Malaysian filmmakers and industry players to produce quality films that have high value in both local and international markets,” it said in the statement.

Meanwhile, according to Harian Metro, Nasir confirmed that he has received a letter of dismissal from Finas yesterday while adding that the agency didn’t state any reason for his termination.

The ex-CEO will be having a press conference with the media regarding his dismissal at 12pm today.

In February this year, Finas appointed Datuk Kamil Othman as their new chairman, replacing senator Datuk Seri Zurainah Musa who ended her term last December.
