Forty-nine Galaxy Racer celebrities and content creators, including Sachzna Laparan, Kristine Santamena and Ayeesha Cervantes, will be competing to give one of their fans "a second chance at life" with a PHP500,000 (US$10,000) prize.

Modelled after Netflix's hit series Squid Game, the GXR Pusit Game (pusit means squid in Tagalog) will see the 49 contestants participating in seven rounds of trending games on the online gaming platform Roblox, which has seen a rise in mini-games inspired by the South Korean drama.

Also participating are Filipino TikTok star Spencer Serafica, YouTube creators the Tukomi brothers, as well Janio Ezekiel Cañazares, whose cosplay of Squid Game's Kang Sae-byeok (played by Jung Ho-yeon) went viral with over 66 million views on TikTok.

The winner of the GXR Pusit Game will select one of their fans to take home the PHP500,000 prize, chosen among the comments on their social media posts. Combined, the participating celebrities and content creators have over 180 million followers on social media.

The event takes place on Friday (22 October) at 4pm PHT, and entries from hopeful fans will close 10am the day before. It will stream on Galaxy Racer's Philippines Facebook page.

Galaxy Racer's SEA Operations CEO, Mitch Esguerra, said the event felt "true to the core concept" of Squid Game by "giving a second chance at life" to one lucky fan.

The record-breaking Squid Game

In the show, desperate people are recruited to participate in the deadly games based on childhood in Korea, with the promise of a life-changing 45.6 billion Korean won (US$38 million).

Squid Game quickly shot up the Netflix charts after its release on 17 Sep, popularising everything from the actors to the Dalgona challenge and even the creepy automated doll and her chilling song during the "Red Light, Green Light" game.

It became Netflix's most-watched show, amassing 111 million views in its first month, with most of the focus already a possible Season 2, which Netflix estimates to be worth almost US$900 million.
