Fight Covid-19, not each other - Selangor sultan tells 'uncaring' politicians

Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is disappointed with politicians who are constantly fighting each other instead of helping the people.

The monarch wants them to set aside their party positions to fight Covid-19 together and also combine their efforts to rebuild the economy.

"The people are getting sick and tired with politicians who are constantly fighting and arguing in their squabble for power to rule the country.

"His Majesty is disappointed because most politicians appear not at all concerned with the problems and hardships faced by the people who were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well their severely affected economic position," the ruler said in a statement.

The statement was issued in support of a call by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who urged politicians not to plunge the country into another round of political uncertainty amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

At present, Umno is holding Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin hostage by making demands to ensure further cooperation.

One Umno leader said the party should be given the deputy prime minister position together with several senior cabinet posts.

Meanwhile, there is also pressure for the Dewan Rakyat to debate a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim claims to have the numbers to form a new government, but this has yet to materialise.
