Fencing Gold Medalist Jackie Dubrovich's New 'No. 1 Priority' After the Olympics? Planning Her Wedding (Exclusive)
"We've been engaged for far too long," jokes Dubrovich, who won a gold medal with her foil fencing teammates in Paris
When Jackie Dubrovich won Olympic gold alongside her U.S. women's foil fencing teammates on Aug. 1 in Paris, there was someone very special ready and waiting to celebrate with her: her fiancé and coach Brian Kaneshige.
Dubrovich, 30, tells PEOPLE that it "meant everything" to share that moment with Kaneshige.
"He's the only one that knows, you know, the journey that I've been on and has been there alongside with me," she says. "It's incredibly special and I know it's something that we're going to tell our kids and our grandkids one day."
Dubrovich and Kaneshige have been engaged since 2019, and now, with her Olympic dream achieved and retirement in view, she says she's ready to tie the knot.
"That is the number one priority as soon as I touch down back at home," says Dubrovich, "is that we're going to start planning our wedding."
Laughs Dubrovich, "We've been engaged for far too long. So it's time."
The foil team — which also includes Lee Kiefer, Lauren Scruggs and Maia Weintraub — won the gold medal at Paris' Grand Palais by defeating Italy 45-39.
Their victory marked the first medal that the U.S. women have won in the event in 16 years. It is also America's first-ever team gold medal for women's foil fencing.
Dubrovich hopes that the women's success acquaints more and more people with fencing.

"It's a really beautiful sport and I feel like a lot of people's first introduction is during the Olympics," says Dubrovich. "And so we hope that, you know, additional coverage and all of this incredible news — USA Fencing is having such an incredible Olympics that it inspires younger kids and adults to take up fencing."
She adds, "I know it's changed our lives for the better."
